A deep-bodied surgeonfish of rich purple-blue with a striking bright yellow tail, near-endemic to the Red Sea and Arabian Sea. It grazes algae from rocks and coral, often in small loose groups. Like all surgeonfish, it carries a sharp blade at the tail base for defence.
