About the species

A common, small parrotfish of Red Sea reefs with a rounded snout and highly variable colours, from drab brown females to vivid green-and-pink males. It constantly scrapes algae and helps produce fine white reef sand. Often seen in loose feeding aggregations over the reef flat.
