Typical progression
- Entry / Open Water — to about 18 m
- Advanced — to about 30 m, with navigation and a deeper dive
- Rescue — emergency management; same depths
- Deep specialty — extends recreational depth to 40 m
- Divemaster / Instructor — professional levels
