Carless Reef, about 14 km northeast of Hurghada between Umm Gamar and Giftun, is a 200 m long reef crowned by two pinnacles rising from a ledge at 12 m to a deeper chasm beyond 22 m. It is famous for swirling schools of fish, moray eels and frequent encounters with pelagics, and was historically known for resident reef sharks. Strong currents and an exposed offshore position make it a thrilling dive best suited to experienced divers.
