About this site

The Salem Express was a 110 m passenger ferry that sank on Hyndman Reef in December 1991 with a heavy loss of pilgrim life, and now lies on her starboard side on sand between 12 and 30 m. The intact hull, lifeboats, paddle-wheel funnel and scattered belongings make it one of the Red Sea's most haunting and emotive dives. Out of respect for the many who died, it is treated as a maritime grave and internal penetration is forbidden.
