An unmistakable predator drifting over reefs with banded maroon-and-white plumes of feathery, fan-like fins. Those graceful rays conceal venomous spines used purely for defence as it stalks small fish at dusk. Curious and often unafraid of divers, it will hold its ground rather than flee.
